Why Is It Important For Children To Play ?

As parents, when we look for early childhood program, we often think of academic related programs. But do you know that the main foundation for our children to stand on when they achieve what they will in later part of their lives start from their learning through play and games?

How is this so?

Children learn through diverse processes, but oftentimes their physical and social environment teaches them the most. Playtime is a cognitive learning exercise where children absorb information and organize them to solve problems and understand their environment.

Researchers are progressively finding associations between children's play and the learning and interpersonal development that aids them in later part of their lives. Research has shown us that while it may seem that all children are doing are playing for fun; they are actually a very crucial part of a child's developmental process. Oftentimes, play activities at this age become the cornerstones for life-long interests and hobbies.

Playing is really a spontaneous means for minors to learn as it employs all of their senses. They begin to understand the concept of strategy as a factor in playing to win. At the toddler stage, children start to acquire the ability to be involved in early pretend play - imitating familiar events in their lives. Children also become more and more focused on their peers at this juncture.

As children reach the primary school years, the focus shifts from dramatic or make-believe play into games with defined rules and structured sports which command strategy and skill.

From about age 9 to 12, team sports assume more and more important, helping children fine-tune their abilities to reason, deliberate strategically, and relate with other people.

As children start to play less in the usual sense when they enter their teenage years, they begin to apply their interests and hobbies into their adult environment.

Playtime is thinking time for young children. It is growing time and a time to learn. Oftentimes they don't even realize they are learning since they enjoy it so much.

As a bonus point to note --- the best way to keep children from losing attention or misbehave is to get them up out of their seats into activities that they can be actively involved with.
