Creativity - A Gift From God
A child ought to be allowed to exercise and discover his gifting from young. God is telling us to rear a child according to his individual gifting, abilities, and inclinations. Each child has been gifted with particular skills, talents and interests. If you allow him time and space to discover these gifting, then when the time comes to choose a path, the choice will be much clearer.
Painting, in particular finger or hand painting can be a fun and effective way for him to express himself and discover his gifting.
Under proper adult supervision, it does not have to be a messy venture.
Explain the rules to your child before starting each painting session.
The child gets to learn that there is a proper time for everything. Starting from an allowed time to have fun in a little messy sort of way, to a time for cleaning up. He should be allowed to freely express whatever he wishes in the parameter of the piece of art paper.
Cover the agreement that it is expected of him to help tidy up after.
Make sure to give positive feedbacks at the slightest sign of skillful expressions. Do not attempt to provide advise unless specifically asked for.
Join in the fun by having a go at painting your own masterpiece, side by side with your child. Ask for his opinion of your creation at intervals and pay attention when he gives it. In doing so, you are showing him that his opinion matters to you and he will learn to be even more responsible and responsive when you ask in other areas.
At the end, there is also the wonderful piece of art that both parent and child can admire together. Years later, it can also help to bring back sweet memories of the wonderful time spent together. This helps in enhancing bonding between parent and child
