Love Letters Are back Again

Last year, I enrolled my teenage son in a 3 days special program which was aimed at developing confidence and gifting. As part of the program, parents were secretly given an assignment by the organizers to write love letters to their children who were attending the course. At first, I was a little comprehensive about this arrangement, as I had never written such a letter before.

"What am I suppose to write? What if it turns out to be a disaster when he read it, thinking I am too mushy?”

The picture of him looking embarrassed and being mad at me was not much of a motivation for me to proceed. However, since I had paid in full for the program and the thought of him feeling left out when the rest of the parents'letters were being read by his course mates quickly help me to put pen to paper.

Fortunately, there were some simple instructional guidelines provided to help me through the dilemma.

On the last day of the program, all parents were invited to a graduation ceremony. The kids were seated together at the front of the hall while the parents towards the back.

It turns out that by then, the children had already read their parents' letters and had written reply letters to us. At a given signal, they came over together and each handed their respective parents the letters they had written.

That day, there were many teary eyes in the hall, but everyone was so happy and glad.

That day, I received such a warm hug of thanks from my son upon reading my simple expressions of love. His letter to me also shows how much he loves and appreciate me.

I hope and pray, that he will treasure these letters and always remember how much his mother and father loves him. I wish the same for you and your children, even your grandchildren!

So why not write your child a love letter today?

Do consider the following few points when you write...

•A simple heartfelt letter expressing you love.

•Recount good times you had both spent together and how much you had enjoyed his or her company.

•Response of appreciation for something that he had done that you are proud of.

•Please avoid any criticism or comments about mistakes he had made.

I wish you joy and happiness in your family.
